The grant will enable us to supply our library and classrooms with resources we never thought possible, allowing us to truly open a world of opportunity to our students.
Kathy Pickford, Principal,
Opening a world of possibilities
Since the 1970’s provincial governments have been asking elementary schools to make do with continually shrinking budgets. The result is an increasing number of Canadian children growing up without books and the opportunity to develop essential literacy skills and a love of reading.
Our mission is to give every child a strong literacy foundation and the chance to reach their full potential. We are committed to making this a reality by putting books into the hands of children through our Literacy Fund and the Indigo Adopt a School programs.
Literacy Fund
Each year, 20 Canadian elementary schools share $1.5 million that provides new books and literacy programs to inspire their students. Since 2004, the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation has committed $13.5 million dollars to 150 high-needs elementary schools—but we need your help to keep growing. You can make a difference today by donating to the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation or if you think your high-needs elementary school has what it takes to be a Love of Reading school, apply for our Literacy Fund.
Adopt a School
Indigo Adopt a School's power is in the grassroots outreach between Indigo stores and a high-needs elementary school in their community they raise money for. Together we have put more than 80,000 books in to the hands of children in 459 schools across the country. To learn more and help build bookshelves in your community, adopt a school near you this September 16 - October 6, 2012.
