Random House of Canada Donates $150,000 to Indigo Love of Reading Foundation

For Immediate Release. Toronto. January 18th, 2008.

Random House of Canada President and CEO Brad Martin today announced a $150 thousand dollar charitable donation from Random House of Canada to the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation.

Created in 2004, The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation was launched by Indigo Books & Music Inc. CEO Heather Reisman in response to the crisis of under resourced elementary school libraries across Canada.

Fifteen schools are selected each year by the foundation to receive a grant of $50,000 per year each, for three-years. Funds are then allocated to the purchase of books or services to improve facilities, inspire students, and encourage a love of reading for elementary students within their school environments and throughout their lives.

According to Martin, “When Heather Reisman took a leadership position on this issue, illuminating the disturbing state of so many school libraries in Canada, as well as the incredible effect this grant has on the recipient schools, we at Random House of Canada decided we needed to make a significant contribution to the Love of Reading Fund to try to help even more Canadian children.”

Heather ReismanCEO of Indigo Books & Music Inc said, “Only as a community can we draw the attention required to the chronic under funding of so many school libraries across Canada. Random House of Canada’s donation to Indigo’s Love of Reading Foundation will ensure that one more Canadian elementary school will have a rich selection of books in their libraries and classrooms. We applaud their generosity and hope our entire publishing community will join in helping to make a difference in the lives of Canadian children. ”

Applications for the 2008 Indigo Love of Reading Foundation Grants are available at www.loveofreading.org, with the deadline for applications extended for 2008 until February 14th, 2008.
